Finanzas y fiscalidad de la villa de Lequeitio (1325-1512)

The town of Lequeitio is located on the Basque Cantabrian sea side. The Middle Ages saw its birth, growth and development. We study, in this article, the tax system applied by the Kings and Landlords of Biscay on the inhabitants of Lequeitio. We analyze on the one hand inhabitants' worries to obtain a tax system relatively proportional to their income level and, on the other, the anxiety of the city council to invest part of the receipts in improving local subtructures. Nevertheless, the royal or seigniorial administration, constantly controlled the processes.
