This contribution analyses the role played by material culture in the imperial funeral. This research applies archaeological, anthropological, and historical knowledge to narrate the activity of the imperial entourage, which resolves issues concerning problems of representation in the funeral of the basileus. In this way, the spectacularization of communication strategies that shaped the etiquette of the Basileia is examined.
