At the beginning of the fourteenth century a new feudal estate was created in the northern borderland between the kingdoms of Castile and Aragon, that belonged to one of the most influential members of the royal family at that moment, the infant Peter, a brother of king Ferdinand IV. Because of its vast surface and its strategical position this feudal estate offers a very original profile, that justifies its study. And it also had a very interesting evolution after the sudden death of its lord, the infant Peter, because his widow, a daughter of the king of Aragón, had to assume the government of the estate, as guardian of their only daughter, Blanca, for, as a consequence of the strategical position of the estate near the border with Aragon, the issue of its government became a central factor for the evolution of the diplomatic relationships between the kingdoms of Castile and Aragon
