This research focuses on the relationships established between the low-medieval urban centres of the Northern Rioja and the hamlets located within its domination area. Firstly, it analyses the urban expansion process, developed from the "foral" age till the end of the Middle Ages. This process was characterised by the incorporation of the hamlets to the territories that belonged to the urban centres. Secondly, a study takes into account the politic, territorial, economic and fiscal aspects.
