Abstract

The historiographical tradition has transmitted us an image of the political vertebration of the Medieval Pla de Barcelona, on the basis of the existence of two districts in the city. On one hand, there was a large district that coincided with the level field made by the mouth of the Besos and Llobregat rivers, where de Town Council exercised a somewhat jurisdictional power. On the other hand, there was another little district, named hort i vinyet, that comprehended the parishes of Sants, Sarria and Sant Marti de Provençals, where de Consell de Cent had a whole civil and criminal jurisdiction. The article tries to demonstrate two things: 1. That this second district called hort i vinyet did not exist; 2. That we can hardly consider the first district depending on the Council. Through an analysis of some interpretations made up to now, it appears to us a different image of the political and territorial articulation of the Pla de Barcelona.
