The study and account of the documents employed in the management of the compostelan mensa archiepiscopalis during the last decades of the XVth century shows us how writing has become a powerful tool to improve the economic administration all along the different levels and persons of the episcopal staff. The use of certain common documentary types and procedures to resolve common situations by the different persons and institutions concerned with the collecting and spending processes gives certain homogeneity to highly diversified mensa.
