Elías, canónigo rotense, posible autor de la Chronica Adefonsi Imperatoris

Abstract

Some writers, such as Julián Pérez, author of a false >em>Cronicón, Domingo Gundisalvi, a toledan philosopher who lived in the 12th century, Rodrigo Jiménez de Rada, Pierre de Poitiers, Cluny's abbot secretary, Pedro el Venerable, Arnaldo, bishop of Astorga, have been considered as possible authors oí the Chronica Adefonsi Imperatoris (CAI). All these hypothesis does not seem to be justified enough. For this reason, we propose the hypothesis that Don Elías, canon of the church of Roda de Isábena (Huesca), and, before, possible abbot of Ripoll, at the request of bishop Gaufrido (1138), wrote the Vita beati Raimundi, bishop of Roda. This Vita is very similar to the CAI. The article deals also with the Historia roderici Campidocti which might have been written by Elías, because it seems to have been compiled in Aragon and follows the same line as the Vita and the CAI. The article ends considering that the Carmen Campidoctoris could have been written by a monk-poet who lived in the second half of 12th century.
