This paper aims to define and explain the hispanogotic period in the area which later became Navarre. However there are many difficulties entailed in making detailed analysis because the documents, texts and the archeological materials of those centuries are scarce, dispersed and fragmented.
The territory organized in western Pyrenees by the civitas of Pompaelo during the late antiquity also suffered the consequences of Imperial disintegration in the 5th century. This emerging situation will forge the gradual articulation of socioeconomic organization, based on the Roman models, and outline the characteristics of the Pamplonian kingdom in the early middle ages.
