This is a study of the conflicts between knights and nobles on one hand, and townsmen on the other, in the towns of the south of the Kingdom of Valencia, conflicts rooted in taxes and costs of defence and in the jurisdictional rights claimed by the knights.
Tension also resulted from the desire of the soldiers to participate in the municipal government of Oriola and to exercise judicial power. This pressure provoked the reform of that towns municipal government between 1325 and 1326.
