The problem of the disciplinary connections of the Order of Alcántara in its origins is a very complex one, which has traditionally been considered from partial and rather passionate points of view. Documental sources are scarce, in any case not enough to reach very precise conclusions. Nevertheless, a political reading of these documents can be of great help to clarify the problem.
