Un códice perdido de la Biblioteca del Marqués de Santillana: El Fedón o Diálogo sobre la inmortalidad del ánima y el resumen de la Ilíada en castellano por Juan de Mena (ms. 36 de la Biblioteca Menéndez Pelayo de Santander)

Abstract

The following article describes us a manuscript (ms. 36 in the Library of Marcelino Menéndez Pelayo at Santander, the "Fedon" or the dialogue on the Soul's Immortality and the summary of the Illiad in castillian by Juan de Mena) whose origin, unknown until now, is the collection of the Marquis of Santillana (1398-1456). The cultural, codicologie and paléographie characterization of the codex shows us, at first, the panorama of the early Renaissance accomplished in the litterary court of Don Iñigo López de Mendoza and, at a larger scale, in the Castile ruled by Juan Trastamara the Second. After a detailed exam, we refer typologically our manucript to the category of "vernacular luxurius codex"; the cursive essence of the writing showed by the paleographical study, points out the "bookish" atmosphere where the documental writting also finds use in the first half of the fifteenth century.
