Abstract

After some general considerations about Medieval metrology, the wide range of weights and measures, and the successive attemps to unify them in the IXth, XIIIth and XVIth centuries, one tries to systematize the units of weight, capacity and length from the Roman and Arabic systems, and also searching its equivalences in the Decimal Metrical System, still applicable, to make the Medieval economic studies easier. Successively, for the Xlllth century, the scales measuring systems and the equivalence tables of the units of weight and length are introduced; the dry capacity measures, paying a special attention to the quartera and cahiz with their respective submultiples and the capacity measures for liquids. The main weights and measures are mentioned. And this study seeks to establish an analysis starting point to solve some historical metrology problems pending, which obstruct the task of the specialist in economic matters. And an orientative, complementay bibliography is added too.
