Abstract

This work analyses the Castilian translation of Geoffrey of Monmouth’s Historia Regum Britanniae which is included in the General Estoria by Alfonso X. This is a partial translation of the Latin text, fragmented in several sections throughout the Castilian chronicle. Studying the location of the British sections within the chronicle and the stylistic procedures used by Spanish translators in every case will enable us to determine the role of the Historia Regum Britanniae in King Alfonso’s historiographical project and its connections with the ideology of the General Estoria.
