Abstract

There are still some dark points on the history of the Señorío of Vizcaya and the Haro 's House. But, it is possible to clarify these points under the light of new records. During the XII century, three members of this noble family offered special services to the Crown of Castile and Leon. In the first decades of the century, count Diego González married Maria Sánchez, who came from Navarra and protected the queen Urraca against the raids of Alfonso I el Batallador. He died in 1124 in his castle of Haro. His son, the count Lope Díaz, served Alfonso VII and Sancho III. He was a major of Sancho III and married the noble lady from Galicia Aldonza González de Traba. Up to now, it was said that she belonged to the House of Castro. Her son, Diego López served also the kings Alfonso VIII of Castile and Alfonso IX of León. He succeeded in the battle of Navas de Tolosa but desagreed with Alfonso VIII. In the article is explained the reason of this discordance.
