The aim of this paper is to determine if the food policy of the Kingdom of Granada derived from the Andalusian one. This study demonstrates that the similarity of the almotacén and the food market rules in both cultures does not imply continuity, since they developed according to economically and culturally different patterns. Indeed, the homogenisation of food laws in the Kingdom of Granada may be explained because of its dependency on earlier Castilian laws, a dependency explained by the Crown's efforts to assimilate, as soon as possible, the conquered Andalusian lands through the extension of the same legal principles.
