Abstract

The parish church of San Justo in Segovia is located outside the city, in the suburb of El Cerrillo. Inside the church there are Romanesque wall paintings, an articulated reclining statue of Christ known as el Cristo de los Gascones, a chapel in the first storey of the tower and, finally, a sculptured tympanum in the door that gives way to the chapel. All of them can be dated to the 12th and 13th-centuries. The analysis of these elements gives us the key to the functionality of the tower chapel, as one of the areas dedicated to the devotion of the Holy Sepulchre in Castile.
